Prior to becoming a DUI defense attorney, Ed Ryan began his career in the criminal justice system as a Nashville Metro Police officer. Mr. Ryan worked as a police officer (and making DUI / DWI arrests) for 16 years. After being promoted to sergeant he supervised the legal section of the police department and taught law to police recruits as well as in-service to the experienced officers.
After obtaining his law degree, Mr. Ryan was employed by the Davidson County, TN District Attorney’s office. While at the District Attorney’s office Mr. Ryan was the lead prosecutor for a Driving Under the Influence (DUI / DWI)charges including vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. While in this position, he worked with other prosecutors concerning legislation and training for other District Attorney’s in DUI / DWI prosecution.
After leaving Davidson County’s District Attorney’s office, Attorney Ryan decided to pursue a career in private practice with an emphasis in criminal and DUI / DWI defense. Now approximately 95% of his practice is defending those who stand accused of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) as well as other alcohol related offenses.
Nashville, DUI defense lawyer Ed Ryan currently holds membership in TACDL (Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers), NACDL (National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers), The National College for DUI Defense, the Nashville Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association.
